A landmark Ōtaki house in Rangiuru Road was jacked up onto two trucks on January 27, and relocated only a few hundred metres further down the road.

The early 20th century house with many original features was originally owned by the well-known D’Ath family, who had several Ōtaki properties, most notably their own home in Waerenga Road near the Domain.

In the latter part of the century, the Wong family owned the house and as market gardeners, worked the surrounding land.

The Rangiuru Road property is to be developed into a new subdivision.

The large house was transported slowly in two  sections towards the beach, with careful negotiation of speed humps, overhead power lines and cars parked by curious onlookers.

The house has gone to a property further west on Rangiuru Road, where renovation work has already begun.
